『９９９』の音楽面では青木望・東海林修という二人の先駆者がいるわけだが、田中公平のスタンスはその中間、やや青木望寄りといったところ。ファンタジックな面と純クラシック風の要素を巧みに融合させた暖かいものになっている。
そして画面とのハマリ具合も見事で、次の『９９９』映画が実現した暁には、このままスライドさせての再登板を望みたい。せっかく海外オケまで起用しながら話題にもならなかったそのリベンジを、是非とも２時間クラスの大作ではたして欲しいものだ。
